NOMMA Online Community Rules and Etiquette
Thank you for being part of the National Ornamental and Miscellaneous Metals Association online community. To ensure the best possible experience for all members, we have established some basic guidelines for participation.
By joining and using this community, you agree that you have read and will follow these rules and guidelines. You also agree to reserve discussions and shared files and content to that best suited to the medium. This is a great medium with which to solicit the advice of your peers, benefit from their experience, and participate in an ongoing conversation. Questions should be directed to our member services department via info@nomma.org or 888-516-8585.
Please take a moment to acquaint yourself with these important guidelines. If you have questions, contact the member services department. In order to preserve an environment that encourages both civil and fruitful dialogue, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate membership in this community for anyone who violate these rules. NOMMA also reserves the right to delete any post with or without reason.
The Rules
- Respect others. Focus on the content of posts and not on the people making them. Please extend the benefit of the doubt to newer guests and members; there’s no such thing as a stupid question.
- Federal anti-trust laws prohibit members of an association to promote or participate in a boycott. Therefore, members should NOT post any critical or derogatory comments about any fabricator, producer, or supplier as such comments might be interpreted as promoting or inciting a boycott.
- Respect the purpose of the community. Use the community to share successes, challenges, constructive feedback, questions, and goals instead of products or services that you provide. Commercial messages in discussions, documents/images, or elsewhere will be removed. This includes links intended to gather leads by collecting email addresses or other contact information in exchange for resources, webinars, etc.
- Use caution when discussing products. Information posted on the discussion groups is available for all to see, and comments are subject to libel, slander and antitrust laws.
- All defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or illegal materials are strictly prohibited. Do not post anything that you would not want the world to see or that you would not want anyone to know came from you.
- Respect intellectual property. Post content that you have personally created or have permission to use and have properly attributed to the content creator.
- When posting items in our collaborative environment, please indicate if the item is not available for reuse. It’s also advisable to contact the owner of any material if you would like to reuse it.
Discussion Group Etiquette
- State concisely and clearly the topic of your comments in the subject line. This allows members to respond more appropriately to your posting and makes it easier for members to search the archives by subject.
- Send messages such as "thanks for the information" or "me, too" to individuals, not to the entire list. Do this by using the "Forward" button and see if the individual's email address is in the original post.
- Do not send administrative messages, such as “remove me from the list,” to the group. Instead, use the web interface or links in email notifications to change your settings or to remove yourself from a list. If you are changing email addresses, you do not need to remove yourself from the list and rejoin under your new email address. Simply change your settings.

Here is a list of some helpful DO’s and DON’Ts regarding participation in the Online Community:
DO ask for supplier recommendations such as 'Where can I buy X'
DONT provide or ask for specific reviews on suppliers or vendors
DONT get into any specifics which can be extrapolated to arrive at yours or others sale price for goods such as hourly rates, markups, or anything of that nature.
DO seek other members to assist with overflow work when you get busy. This is one of the win-win scenarios for membership in our association!
DO feel free to share news, updates, experiences, and anecdotes from your business that your fellow members may find interesting and would likely even gain from
DO provide your input on topics related to our industry and freely express your agreement or disagreement with others’ opinions
DON’T attack others personally. We are adults and don’t engage in bullying or name-calling.
Nor do we engage in expressing or debating opinions regarding issues unrelated to our business and mission. This would include issues related to politics, religion, gender, or race.
What Happens If I Break The Rules?
The first time we receive a complaint about something you posted, we will remove your post and inform you of the complaint.
The second time we receive a complaint, we will remove the post and suspend you from participating in the on-line chat for 30 days.
In the very unlikely event that we receive a third complaint, you will be indefinitely suspended from participating. Somewhat like baseball, three strikes and you’re out, however, we can’t imagine that ever happening.
